Former Los Angeles Jr. King Mattias Sholl was named the North American Hockey League’s (NAHL) Midwest Division Star of the Week for the week ending March 10.

A goaltender with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, Sholl, 18, helped lead his team to a weekend home sweep of the Minnesota Magicians allowing just a single goal on 53 shots as the Ice Dogs moved into sole possession of first place in the NAHL’s Midwest Division.

On Friday, Sholl made 31 saves in a 2-1 victory. The next night, he stopped all 21 shots he faced to earn his fourth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win.

On the year, Sholl, who also won the award for the week ending Feb. 10, holds a 11-1-4 record to compliment a league-best 1.87 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage.

“Mattias is playing with a lot of confidence and it showed last weekend,” said Ice Dogs head coach Trevor Stewart. “He made some very timely saves for our team and helped us pick up two big wins."
