The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ 14U A and 12U A1 teams advanced to the championship game in their respective divisions of this year’s Southern California Amateur Hockey Association (SCAHA) playoffs after winning their semifinal contests, which were played last weekend (March 16-17) at Ice Station Valencia.

The 14U A team, led by head coach Tony Rudy, downed the Ventura Mariners, 3-2, in its semi on Sunday, while the Jeff Bain-coached 12U A1 squad (pictured) bested the Jr. Kings’ A2 team, 4-0, also on Sunday.

In the finals - all A, BB and B SCAHA championship games will be showcased on March 23-24 at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo - the 14U A club will take on Gold Rush Hockey Club 1 on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. and the 12U A1 team will face off against the California Heat - also on Sunday - at 4:15 p.m.

Both teams have already earned berths to the California Amateur Hockey Association A/BB/B State Championships, which will be played from March 29-31 in San Jose.

In addition to the Sam Graham-coached 12U A2 club, three other Jr. Kings and Lions teams played in SCAHA semifinal games over the weekend: the Dimitri Voulelikas-led 10U A1 squad, which fell to Gold Rush Hockey Club 2, 2-1, on Saturday; Jamie Storr-coached 10U A2 club, which came up short against Gold Rush 1, 5-4 in overtime, on Sunday; and Richard Gomez-led Lions’ 10U B Flight II team, which lost to the California Heat on Saturday, 5-0.

At last weekend’s California Amateur Hockey Association Tier II State Championships, which were played at Ice-Plex Escondido, the Jr. Kings’ Pee Wee AA1 team finished with a 0-2 record.

The Kyle Calder-led club opened the four-team, double-elimination tournament on Friday with a 3-2 overtime loss to San Diego Jr. Gulls 1 before falling to Ice Dogs Hockey Club 2 on Saturday, 2-1.
