Plenty with Jr. Kings ties picked in Phase II of USHL Draft

Four players who skated in Los Angeles Jr. Kings program this past season - Jacob Brockman, Jordy Brisson, Andre Gasseau and David Tolan - and five alumni were selected in Phase II of this year’s USHL Draft, which was conducted today.

Four players who skated in Los Angeles Jr. Kings program this past season - forwards Jacob BrockmanJordy Brisson and Andre Gasseau and defenseman David Tolan - were selected in Phase II of this year’s United States Hockey League (USHL) Draft, which was conducted today (May 6).

Brockman (pictured), who played on the Jr. Kings’ 18U AAA team in 2018-19, was chosen by the Green Bay Gamblers in the 12th round of the draft (172nd overall), while Tolan, who skated for the Jr. Kings’ 15U AAA team, was selected in the 14th round - also by Green Bay (202nd overall).

The Chicago Steel landed Brisson in the 14th round (210th overall), and the Fargo Force selected Gasseau in the 18th round (266th overall). Both played for the Jr. Kings’ 15U AAA team last season.

A handful of former Jr. Kings were also selected, including goaltender Mattias Sholl, who was the first Californian picked in the draft going in the sixth round (89th overall) to the Madison Capitols.

Other graduates of the program selected were defenseman Colton Huard, who was selected in the seventh round by Fargo (89th overall); goaltender Ian Shane, chosen by Chicago in the 13th round (195th overall); defenseman Jack Blake, who was taken in the 17th round by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (253rd overall); and forward Huston Karpman, selected in the 19th round by the Sioux City Musketeers (280th overall).

Phase II of the USHL Draft was open to all junior-age-eligible players.

In Phase I of the draft, which was conducted yesterday and reserved for 2003 birth-year players, three members of the Jr. Kings’ 2018-19 state champion 16U AAA team were selected: forwards Danny MinnehanParker Murray and Ean Somoza. Defenseman Shai Buium, a former Jr. King, was also chosen.

The USHL is widely considered North America’s premier junior league when it comes to developing players for NCAA Division I hockey. It has also groomed countless players for the professional ranks, including the NHL.
