Wolf selected by Calgary in NHL Entry Draft

Dustin Wolf, a graduate of the Los Angeles Jr. Kings program, was selected by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round (214th overall) of this year’s NHL Entry Draft, which was conducted on June 21-22 in Vancouver.

Wolf, a 2001-born goaltender, is coming off an impressive second season with the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Everett Silvertips. In 61 games, he sported a 41-15-2-2 record, including seven shutouts, to compliment a 1.69 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. 

For the regular-season portion of his WHL career, Wolf has fashioned a 54-21-2-2 record in 81 games, sporting a 1.83 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and 11 shutouts.

Wolf posted on his Twitter: "What a whirlwind of a day. Beyond excited and grateful to be picked by the @NHLFlames Wouldn’t be here without my family and friends along the way. #CofRed"

Wolf, a member of the 2018 U.S. Under-18 Men's Select Team that competed in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup last summer, was also named the WHL Goaltender of the Week for the weeks ending Oct. 28, Nov. 25, Dec. 9, Jan. 27, March 3 and March 31 and WHL Goaltender of the Month for December.

He was named the Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week for the weeks ending Dec. 9 and Jan. 27 and also named the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year.

Last week, Wolf was one of 44 players invited to the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase that will be held from July 26-Aug. 3 in Plymouth, Mich. The players will audition for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2020 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, which will be showcased from Dec. 26, 2019 through Jan. 5, 2020, in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic.

Two other former Jr. Kings - defensemen Jackson Lacombe (Anaheim Ducks, second round, 39th overall) and Drew Helleson (Colorado Avalanche, second round, 47th) - were also selected in draft.

Forward Alex Turcotte, the nephew of Jr. Kings coach Jeff Turcotte, was picked No. 5 overall by the Los Angeles Kings.
