Thanksgiving Extravaganza faces off Thursday

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings have announced the field and schedule for their upcoming Thanksgiving Weekend Extravaganza Tournament, which will run from Nov. 28-Dec. 1. Sixty-eight teams from four states and two Canadian provinces will compete in 11 divisions.

Sixty-eight teams from Alaska, Arizona, Colorado and Southern California, as well as British Columbia and Ontario, Canada, will compete in 11 divisions: 16U AA; 14U A; 12U AAA, AA Elite, AA and A; 10U A and BB; and 8U A-Gretzky and -Robitaille and B.

Games will be contested at Toyota Sports Performance Center (TSPC) in El Segundo, East West Ice Palace (Artesia), KHS Ice Arena (Anaheim) and LA Kings Ice at Pickwick Gardens (Burbank).

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome so many distinguished programs from Southern California and beyond for what promises to be a competitive and entertaining four days of hockey,” tournament director Brian McDonough said. “We’re looking forward to a spirited weekend to help ring in the holiday season.”

Division champions will be awarded a banner, and all players on the championship teams will receive medals. Players on the runner-up teams in each division will also receive medals.

Tournament vendors will include Northwest Designs of CaliforniaOrigami OwlAufeis HockeyPCH ApparelCustom Sports Banner and Score Custom Engraving.

The Los Angeles Kings will hold a pro stock equipment sale on the upper concourse of TSPC on Sat., Nov. 30, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and McDonald’s will also be on-site greeting tournament patrons over the weekend.

The Kings’ Off-Ice Training Center located inside TSPC will also be available to all participating teams. Teams interested in scheduling a session can contact the facility’s director, Mark Hardy, at mhardy@toyotasportsperformancecenter.com and/or (424) 251-5995.

The Kings are also offering discounted tickets to the following home games at STAPLES Center: Mon., Nov. 25 (vs. San Jose), Wed., Nov. 27 (vs. New York Islanders) and Sat., Nov. 30 (vs. Winnipeg). Kings Cove and Grimaldi’s Pizzeria will serve as restaurant partners for the event, and PSE Event Housing successfully coordinated all hotel accommodations for out-of-town teams visiting over the weekend.

All 16U AA through 10U BB games played at TSPC will be streamed live via the Internet through LiveBarn.com.

The Thanksgiving Weekend Extravaganza is part of the Jr. Kings’ Tinseltown Tournament Series. Pre-registration is now open for the Series’ remaining four events of the 2019-20 season: the Holiday Showdown (Dec. 27-30); MLK Crazy 8 Jamboree (Jan. 18-20, 2020); Presidents’ Day Challenge (Feb. 14-17, 2020); and Carmen Starr Memorial Day Classic (May 22-25, 2020).
