Presidents' Day Challenge faces off Friday

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings have announced the field and schedule for their upcoming Presidents’ Day Challenge Tournament, which will run from Feb. 14-17. Forty-one teams from five states, as well as British Columbia, will compete in seven divisions.

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings have announced the field and schedule for their upcoming Presidents’ Day Challenge Tournament, which will run from Feb. 14-17.

Forty-one teams from Northern and Southern California, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado and Utah, as well as British Columbia, will compete in seven divisions: 14U AA; 12U AA Elite, AA and A; 10U A; and 8U A and B.

Games will be contested at Toyota Sports Performance Center (TSPC) in El Segundo, The Rinks-Lakewood ICE (Lakewood) and East West Ice Palace (Artesia).

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome so many distinguished programs from around the Western U.S. and Canada for what promises to be a competitive and entertaining four days of hockey,” tournament director Brian McDonough said. “Having so many out-of-town teams participate is exciting for both our local clubs and our visitors.”

Division champions will be awarded a banner, and all players on the championship teams will receive medals. Players on the runner-up teams in each division will also receive medals. 

Tournament vendors will include Northwest Designs of CaliforniaOrigami OwlCustom Sports BannerEpic Auction Events and Nashti Sports. McDonald’s and Keck Medicine of USC will also be on-site greeting patrons over the weekend.

The Kings’ Off-Ice Training Center located inside TSPC will also be available to all participating teams. Teams interested in scheduling a session can contact the facility’s director, Mark Hardy.

The American Hockey League’s Ontario Reign will host Stanley Cup Night on Sunday, Feb. 16, during its game against the Colorado Eagles at Toyota Arena in Ontario (3 p.m. faceoff). Tournament-game schedule permitting, interested teams can contact the Reign’s director of ticket sales and group strategy, Nate Downer.

Kings CoveGrimaldi’s PizzeriaRock & Brews and Tin Roof Bistro will serve as restaurant partners for the event, and PSE Event Housing successfully coordinated all hotel accommodations for out-of-town teams visiting over the weekend. Located inside TSPC, Ultimate Skate & Hockey will also be available to assist with any equipment servicing needs (SHOP HOURS: Fri: 11 AM-7:30 PM; Sat: 8 AM-7:30 PM; Sun: 8 AM-6:30 PM; Mon: 9 AM-5 AM).

All 14U AA through 10U A games played at TSPC will be streamed live via the Internet through LiveBarn.com.
