The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ 13U AAA and 11U AAA teams celebrated titles in their respective divisions at this year’s California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) Tier I State Championships, which were showcased from Feb. 28-March 1 at LA Kings Icetown in Riverside.
Led by head coach Brett Beebe, the 13U AAA team outscored its opponents 24-4 on its way to a perfect 3-0 record at states, including a 5-3 victory over the Anaheim Jr. Ducks in Sunday’s finale.
The 2006 birth-year squad - the core of which also won 11U AAA and 12U AAA state titles the last two seasons - opened its weekend on Friday with a 11-1 victory over the San Jose Jr. Sharks. The next day, the Jr. Kings blanked Ice Dogs Hockey Club, 8-0, setting up Sunday’s deciding game against the Jr. Ducks.
Under the direction of head coach Shawn Pitcher, the 11U AAA team (pictured) forged a 4-0 record at states, including a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Jr. Ducks in Sunday’s championship game.
The 2008 birth-year squad opened its weekend on Friday with a 10-0 triumph over San Jose, followed by a 6-4 win over Anaheim. The next day, the Jr. Kings blanked the Jr. Sharks again, 7-0, setting up Sunday’s finale.
Led by head coach Jeff Turcotte, the Jr. Kings’ 12U AAA team opened states with three straight victories (a pair of 4-0 wins over the Jr. Sharks and a 3-1 triumph over the Jr. Ducks) before falling to Anaheim in Sunday’s championship game, 3-2.
Last month in San Jose, the Jr. Kings’ 16U AAA team, led by head coach Mark Hardy, and 14U AAA squad, led by Jack Bowkus, also celebrated the CAHA state title in their respective divisions. With the victories, both teams earned berths to this year’s Pacific District Championships, which will run from March 5-8 in Tacoma, Wash., to play for the right to compete in April’s USA Hockey National Championships.
States marks the end of the season for the 13U AAA, 12U AAA and 11U AAA squads.
