Seven former Los Angeles Jr. Kings are listed on opening-night rosters of United States Hockey League (USHL) teams. The USHL, widely considered one of the premier junior leagues in North America, commences its 2020-21 season on Friday.

Among those rostered include forward Andre Gasseau and defensemen Aidan Hreschuk, a Boston College commit, and Ty Murchison (pictured), all of whom will dress this season for the U.S. National Team Development Program’s Under-18 Team. The three were recognized on NHL Central Scouting’s “Players to Watch” list for 2021 draft-eligibles, which was released last month.

Goaltenders Ian Shane and Mattias Sholl are also rostered. A Cornell University recruit, Shane is in his second season stopping pucks for defending USHL regular-season champion Chicago Steel, while Sholl, who showcased a stellar 2019-20 campaign with the North American Hockey League’s (NAHL) Fairbanks Ice Dogs in which he was named to the All-NAHL Second Team, is manning the crease for the Youngstown Phantoms. Sholl was also recognized as the NAHL’s Midwest Division Most Valuable Player, named to the All-Midwest Division Team and tabbed the division’s Goaltender of the Year.

The other former Jr. Kings dotting opening-night rosters for USHL teams are forward Huston Karpman (Fargo Force) and defenseman Colton Huard (Chicago).

The nation's only Tier I junior league, the USHL had 51 players selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, including former Jr. King Brendan Brisson, a freshman forward at the University of Michigan who went in the first round (29th overall) to the Vegas Golden Knights, marking the third-straight season the league boasted 50-or-more players chosen in the draft. More than 800 alumni are currently on NCAA Division I rosters.
