The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ 14U AAA team celebrated this year’s Tier 1 Elite Hockey League championship in its division after its 5-4 overtime victory over the Colorado Thunderbirds in Monday’s title game, which was contested in Monument, Colo.

Trailing 3-0 in the middle of the second period, forward Nicholas Christianson, who led Jr. Kings in scoring for the weekend with four goals for 11 points, got L.A. on the board for its first score.

Forward Tyler Chiovetti rang up the Jr. Kings’ next two markers and assisted on both forward Colin Frank’s game-tying goal and defenseman Kai Mencel’s OT game-winner. Goaltender Jackson Silverberg stopped 22 of 26 shots in the win.

Forging a perfect 5-0 record for the weekend, the Jr. Kings, led by head coach Brett Beebe, downed the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes, 9-2, on Saturday before knocking off the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets, 5-1. On Sunday, L.A. blanked the Colorado-based Rocky Mountain RoughRiders, 8-0, then topped the Nashville Jr. Predators, 5-1, setting up its championship match with the Thunderbirds.

Silverberg picked up three wins between the pipes, with Justin Bayers picking up the other two while allowing just two goals against.
