The LA Lions’ 14U AAA team qualified for the upcoming USA Hockey National Championships after celebrating the title in its division at this year’s Pacific District Championships, which were showcased last weekend (April 8-11) in Phoenix.

At the Tier I national tournament, which will run from April 29-May 3 in West Chester, Pa., the Lions will face off against the rest of the country’s best in the 14U age group.

The Lions, led by head coach Andrew Stone and assistant Dominique Petrie, cruised to a perfect 4-0 record at districts, including a 3-2 triumph over the San Jose Jr. Sharks in Sunday’s championship game.

In the finale against the Jr. Sharks, forward Keirstyn Camiolo struck for a goal and assisted on forward Lily Winckler’s third-period game-winner. Forward Lincoln Brown connected for the other Lions’ tally. Between the pipes, goaltender Jolee Savoy turned aside 21 shots.

The Lions opened the round-robin portion of the tournament on Thursday with a 7-1 victory over the Anaheim Lady Ducks, followed by triumphs over the Jr. Sharks (7-2 on Friday) and Seattle Lady Admirals (9-1 on Saturday) to set up their title-game matchup with San Jose.

The Tier I district title and nationals berth marks the first-ever for the Lions program.
