The Los Angeles Jr. Kings youth hockey organization has announced that it has expanded its partnership with the Uncle Kory Foundation (UKF) in an ongoing effort to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support brain cancer research.

The collaboration will continue to encourage Jr. Kings players and their families to help champion the cause through engaging in philanthropic endeavors with UKF, on and off the ice.

“We’ve been very fortunate to align ourselves with such a proud, selfless and dedicated group, and excited to build on our relationship with the Uncle Kory Foundation this season,” said Jr. Kings executive director Kelly Sorensen. “Through a variety of fundraising programs and co-branding initiatives we have in place, I’m nothing but confident - together - we’ll help make a difference in the fight against cancer.”

That commitment began in August when the Jr. Kings hosted their fifth annual golf tournament and dinner at Mountain Gate Country Club in Los Angeles and raised over $15,000 - $1,000 of which was donated to the Uncle Kory Foundation.

Also this season, all Jr. Kings players will sport UKF stickers on their helmets.

The first initiative the Jr. Kings supported was through the sale of co-branded jersey garment bags and water bottles, which were sold at various Jr. Kings events last season. Proceeds from the sales assisted Uncle Kory’s mission to find a cure for Glioblastoma, which, as of today, is an incurable form of brain cancer.

Renee Vachon, who serves as director of the Uncle Kory Foundation and lost her mother-in-law, Nicole Vachon, to Glioblastoma this year, is nothing but proud to continue to push UKF’s message with the Jr. Kings' support.

“As a foundation, we’re thrilled to work with the Jr. Kings to collaborate and fundraise in a collective effort to fight this awful disease - all the while teaching our children the importance of giving back to the community and lending a helping hand to those in need,” said Vachon, who also organizes the Jr. Kings’ participation in the Tour de Pier - an annual cancer-awareness fundraiser which next year will take place on Sunday, May 21, in Manhattan Beach.

“Together, we truly have brain cancer surrounded.”
