Four grads taken in Phase I of USHL Draft

Four former Los Angeles Jr. Kings were selected in this year’s United States Hockey League (USHL) Draft

Four former Los Angeles Jr. Kings were selected in this year’s United States Hockey League (USHL) Draft, which was conducted on May 1-2.

Forwards Brendan Brisson and Kristof Papp and defenseman Nick Kent were selected in Phase I of the draft, which was held on May 1 and reserved for 2001-born players.

Brisson, who was picked in the 10th round by the Green Bay Gamblers, skated this past season at Minnesota's Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school, while Papp, an eight-round selection of the Madison Capitols, played for Detroit Honeybaked.

Kent (pictured), who will attend and play his NCAA Division I hockey at Connecticut’s Quinnipiac University following his prep and junior careers, recently completed his second season patrolling the blue line at British Columbia's Delta Hockey Academy. He was selected in the second round by Green Bay.

In Phase II of the USHL Draft, which took place the next day was open to all junior-age-eligible players, former Jr. King Mason Kohn was picked.The Muskegon Lumberjacks selected the defenseman in the 23rd round.

The USHL is widely considered North America’s premier junior league when it comes to developing players for NCAA Division I hockey. It also regularly produces top NHL draft picks.
