Chad Ruhwedel, a former Los Angeles Jr. King, celebrated a Stanley Cup championship last night as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The San Diego native is the second graduate of the Jr. Kings program - and second born-and-trained player from California - to hoist the Cup; forward Beau Bennett, from Gardena, won the Stanley Cup last year - then also a member of the Penguins.

After his development in Southern California, Ruhwedel, a defenseman, went on to play two years of junior hockey with the United States Hockey League’s Sioux Falls Stampede before playing three years of NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Ruhwedel just completed his fifth season of professional hockey, recording two goals for 10 points in 40 regular-season and playoff games with the Penguins.

Pittsburgh bested the Nashville Predators, 4 games to 2, to win the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Finals series.
