The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Squirt A2 team celebrated the championship in its division at this year’s Calder Classic, which was showcased over the holidays at the outdoor Mammoth Ice Rink in Mammoth Lakes.

The Jr. Kings put together a perfect 4-0 record at the event, including an 8-3 triumph over the California Golden Bears in the championship game.

Los Angeles opened the tournament with a 1-0 victory over the Mammoth Stars, followed by a 7-5 triumph over the Bears. The Jr. Kings wrapped up pool play with a 5-4 win over the Anaheim Jr. Ducks before their championship game victory over the Bears.

Jr. Kings head coach James Gasseau was quick to credit the efforts of Luke Fortune, the father of Jr. Kings Pee Wee AAA2 forward Patrick Fortune, for helping organize the adventure.

“A big thanks to Luke and his staff for providing our families with a priceless experience to enjoy all the outdoors activities Mammoth has to offer, including skiing, tubing, sledding, pond hockey and hiking,” said Gasseau, who’s assisted behind the bench by Brad Stuart and Alex Sutton.

Forward Brady Witkin led the Jr. Kings’ scoring charge in Mammoth, followed by forwards Kai Bara and Jake Pesusich.

Other members of the team include: forwards Jake Brown, Donald Graham, Benjamin Larson, Nicholas Liu, Cooper Soller and Logan Stuart; defensemen Chris Donell, Jacqueline Gasseau, Jack Green, Adian Liu, Kevin Shi and Noah Sutton; and goaltenders Goose Faynsod and Morgan Stickney.

Tracy Stickney is the team’s manager.

“This experience went far beyond playing hockey, and we’re very grateful for the opportunity,” James Gasseau added.
