Pee Wee AA2 club wins SCAHA championship

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Pee Wee AA Minor team ended its season on a winning note, celebrating victory in the 12U AA division at this year’s Southern California Amateur Hockey Association Flight II Championships, which were played on March 3-4 at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings’ Pee Wee AA Minor team ended its season on a winning note, celebrating victory in the 12U AA division at this year’s Southern California Amateur Hockey Association Flight II Championships, which were played on March 3-4 at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.

The Jr. Kings, led by head coach Jeff Turcotte, opened the round-robin portion of the tournament on Saturday with victories OC Hockey Club (4-1) and Ice Dogs Hockey Club (3-2) before knocking off the San Diego Jr. Gulls on Sunday morning, 3-1.

In Sunday afternoon’s championship game, the Jr. Kings, a 2007 birth year team, downed the Ice Dogs again, 3-2.

Members of the squad include: forwards Masun Fleece, Henry Kress, John McDaniel, John Niemela, Luke Norcross, Brendan O’Brien, Dylan Podergois, Jake Stuart and Carson Woolcott; defensemen Lucas Cornforth, Ryan Hornberger, Christian Plaga, Tyler Russell and Dane Sorensen; and goaltender Jackson Silverberg.

Turcotte is assisted behind the bench by Brad Stuart, Darren Cornforth and Kelly Sorensen. Ching Cornforth is the team’s manger.
