The San Jose Barracuda has signed former Los Angeles Jr. King Evan Weinger to an AHL contract. This season, the El Segundo native is skating for the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings.

The San Jose Barracuda has signed former Los Angeles Jr. King Evan Weinger to an American Hockey League contract.

This season, Weinger, a forward, has recorded 50 points (26 goals) and a plus-3 rating in 57 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

The Barracuda is the top affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.

“Evan has high-end speed and can play in all situations,” said Doug Wilson Jr., director of hockey operations for the Sharks. “He plays on the inside and has a quick release from both sides of the ice. We’ve been following him for a while now, and we’re excited for him to join the organization.”

Weinger, a 20-year-old from El Segundo, participated in the Los Angeles Kings Development Camp last summer.

He began the 2017-18 campaign with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks - the team with whom he played three full seasons prior to joining Brandon.
