Former Los Angeles Jr. King Garrett Nieto has committed to attend and play his NCAA Division I hockey at Union College following his junior career.

Nieto, a 19-year-old goaltender stopping pucks for the North American Hockey League’s Janesville Jets this year, posted a 21-5-2 record in 31 regular-season appearances, including three shutouts, to go along with a 2.00 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

“Very proud and excited to announce my commitment to Union College,” the Yorba Linda native posted on his Twitter. “I can’t thank the coaches and players enough who have helped me along the way. Most importantly to my parents who have sacrificed everything to get me to where I am today. Go Dutchmen!”

Located in Schenectady, N.Y., Union competes in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Nieto’s brother, goaltender and former Jr. King Gavin Nieto, recently completed his sophomore season at Brown University (ECAC).
