The Los Angeles Jr. Kings are excited to announce a partnership with Driscoll Skating & Skills, which will conduct a two-week power skating-centric skills program in July at Toyota Sports Center (El Segundo) and The Rinks-Lakewood ICE (Lakewood).

Both locations will host a younger group (Mites through Pee Wees) and an older group (Pee Wees and older), and each clinic will feature 10 two-hour skills sessions limited to 30 players with the player-to-coach ratio a maximum of 6-to-1.

Jr. Kings players who played at the Tier I (AAA) level during the 2017-18 season will be given first priority for registration (see the complete schedule and registration details below). All other players will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis. All players may enroll now at driscollhockey.com. Please choose the Toyota Sports Center or Lakewood ICE tab as appropriate.

“We’re extremely fortunate to welcome Driscoll Skating & Skills to Southern California this summer for what promises to be a rewarding developmental experience,” said Steve Yovetich, the Jr. Kings’ Chairman of the Board. “Their presence marks a unique and valuable opportunity for our players to take advantage of some of the best skating instruction in all of North America right in our own backyard.”

Tim Driscoll, a four-year letter winner at Princeton University who went on to sign a professional contract with the Boston Bruins, will lead the program. Driscoll, who earned a MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, has taught power skating since 1990.

“We’re thrilled to partner with such an esteemed youth program in the Jr. Kings, and firmly believe our teachings and curriculum will greatly enhance the skating skills and technique of every single player that joins us on the ice,” said Driscoll, whose program is based in New England. “My coaches love to teach power skating and we’re in complete agreement that skating is the most important skill in the game of hockey. Skating is our passion and we’ve designed a curriculum that we deliver in a positive, hockey-rich environment. The expectation should be that every player will be a better skater at the end of the program.

“We focus on the fundamentals of skating for hockey and the edge work and foot work that’s necessary to compete at the highest levels of hockey. Students of all ages and abilities are treated like hockey players and given the proper individualized instruction for every progression in the series of power-skating and edge-work drills that we teach. Further, our coaches detail a progression of teaching instruction designed to advance the understanding and adoption of the proper skating technique.

“All of our coaches are passionate about hockey and eager to share their knowledge of and enthusiasm for the game in a constructive learning environment,” Driscoll added. “Our collective knowledge of power skating and our experience playing at the professional level imparts an advanced understanding of how the power-skating component of hockey translates into success at the highest levels of the game. Most importantly, we love to share our passion and knowledge of the game of hockey with the next generation of players.”

In addition to Driscoll, the clinic will be under the instruction of Greg Gallagher, Erik Lektorp (a Jr. Kings coach), Justin MansfieldBrandon McNally and Yorba Linda native Ryan Santana - all of whom played hockey professionally, and all but the Sweden-born Lektorp in college.

Ninety minutes of each session will be devoted to skating, with the other thirty minutes devoted to stickhandling drills and passing with movement.

The cost for the clinic is $1,000.00.
