Labor Day Festival faces off Friday

A record-high 62 teams from Arizona, Nevada and Northern and Southern California will compete in 10 divisions at the seventh annual event, which will be showcased from Aug. 31-Sept. 3 at five Southern California rinks.

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings have announced the field and schedule for their upcoming Labor Day Weekend Festival tournament, which will run from Aug. 31-Sept. 3 at five Southern California rinks.

A record-high 62 teams from Arizona, Nevada and Northern and Southern California will compete in 10 divisions: High School; 14U A; 12U AAA, A and BB; 10U A and BB; and 8U A, 8U B-Gretzky and -Robitaille.

Games will be contested at Toyota Sports Center (El Segundo), Pickwick Ice (Burbank), East West Ice Palace (Artesia), The Rinks-Lakewood ICE (Lakewood) and Skating Edge Ice Arena (Harbor City).

“Labor Day marks the ideal holiday weekend to help celebrate the commencement of another exciting season,” tournament director Brian McDonough said of the seventh annual event. “We couldn’t be happier to welcome so many distinguished programs from California, as well as Arizona and Nevada, for what promises to be a competitive and entertaining four days of hockey.”

Division champions will be awarded a banner, and all players on the championship teams will receive medals. Players on the runner-up teams in each division will also receive medals.

Tournament vendors include Northwest Designs of CaliforniaOrigami OwlCustom Sports BannerTeammate Robotics and Quality One Engravers.

The Jr. Kings’ 12U AAA team, which will be participating in the tournament, will be on-site fundraising for its trip to February’s Quebec International Pee Wee Tournament. The club will have a game truck set up in the Toyota Sports Center parking lot on Saturday and Sunday, as well as a table inside the facility where it'll be selling merchandise and conducting a 50/50 raffle.

Blue Shield of California, a proud partner of the Los Angeles Kings and LA Lions, who’s 8U team will also be competing in the tournament, will also have an on-site presence at the event.

Kings CoveGrimaldi’s Pizzeria, Mendocino Farms and Tin Roof Bistro are serving as restaurant partners for the tournament, and PSE Event Housing successfully coordinated all hotel accommodations for out-of-town teams visiting over the weekend.

All 10U through High School games played at Toyota Sports Center will be streamed live via the Internet through LiveBarn.com.

The Labor Day Weekend Festival is part of the Jr. Kings’ Tinseltown Tournament Series. Pre-registration is now open for the Series’ remaining four events of the 2018-19 season: the Thanksgiving Extravaganza (Nov. 22-25); Holiday Showdown (Dec. 27-30); Presidents’ Day Challenge (Feb. 15-18, 2019); and Carmen Starr Memorial Day Classic (May 24-27, 2019).
