“This is both an exciting and unique opportunity for our program showcase some of the best Midget hockey in the entire country,” said Jr. Kings general manager of hockey operations Nick Vachon. “All of these clubs are well-established and have developed so many high-end players over the years, and to have them compete in our own backyard is a treat.”

Featuring 23 organizations from across the country, the Tier 1 Elite League positions itself as the nation’s premier amateur hockey circuit. A countless number of its graduates are currently playing in the NCAA, high-level junior and professional ranks, including the NHL.

Recent Jr. Kings graduates who toiled in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League include: Jake McGrew, a forward with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL) who signed an NHL contract with the San Jose Sharks last month; defenseman Jake St. Ivany, a freshman at Yale University who was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in last summer’s NHL Entry Draft; and goaltender Dustin Wolf, an early 2019 NHL draft prospect who is stopping pucks this season for the WHL’s Everett Silvertips.

“What’s great for our younger players and families, too, is they can see firsthand the level of talent, along with the work ethic, that’s out there, nationally, as they prepare for AAA hockey and, hopefully, beyond,” Vachon added. “It’ll be a neat experience for our entire club.

“It’s not too often we get to showcase this level of competition in Southern California, and we’re eager to prove ourselves as worthy hosts.”
