Former Los Angeles Jr. King Cole Guttman was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 13 after ringing up four points in the University of Denver’s two-game sweep over the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Guttman played a key role in Denver’s wins over the Mavericks as he had a hand in both game-winning markers in a pair of one-goal victories to push DU’s win streak to seven games.

In Friday’s 1-0 shutout win, the Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick dished out an assist on the lone goal in the second period while finishing with a plus-1 rating.

The next night, Guttman, who played his junior hockey with the United States Hockey League's Dubuque Fighting Saints, scored the game-winning goal early in overtime to break a 2-2 tie. He also fired three shots on goal and was plus-2 in the Pioneers’ triumph, earning First Star of the Game.

Guttman, who was also tabbed the NCHC Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 21, completed the series with a goal and an assist along with four shots on goal, one blocked shot and a plus-3 while also winning 13 of 23 faceoffs (.565).

In his final season with the Jr. Kings in 2015-16, Guttman helped the program’s 16U AAA team capture a Pacific District championship.
